Sexual Scandal in the Catholic Church

There is a terrible sexual scandal that is rampant in the Catholic Church. None of the secular media outlets are covering it. Instead, they focus on a few (very few) Catholic priests that have abused young boys and young men. This is an extremely small problem, and the Catholic Church is the leading institution in the world putting safeguards in place to prevent this from happening. However, there is a much bigger problem that seems to be prevalent in the majority of priests and even bishops. I say, "seems" to be, but perhaps the percentage of clergy involved in this scandal is not as large as some might suggest. Hopefully, the percentage of clergy involved in this scandal is far less than the percentage of laity that is involved in this scandal.

The problem with such a large percentage of laity being involved in this scandal is that all of the clergy was at one time part of the laity. Therefore, they likely were involved in this scandal before they became clerics.

As mentioned above, there is a very small percentage of Catholic priests that have acted contrary to Catholic morality and have sexually abused young boys and young men. (There is other sexual abuse, but the percentage is even smaller.) Unfortunately, there is a much larger number of Catholic priests, even bishops, and an even greater number of Catholic laity that act and teach contrary to Catholic morality on the issues of contraception, same sex attraction, and even abortion.

Some use terms such as contraception policy and ban on abortion not realizing that the use of the first would be the same as consubstantiality of the Holy Trinity policy and the second would be the same as ban on murder. Few realize that acceptance of same sex "marriage" completely contradicts the very basis of Catholicism, the Sacrament of Marriage, which is the proto-sacrament and a foreshadowing of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

The sexual scandal in the Catholic Church is that so many "Catholics" do not accept the Church's moral teaching on sexuality. Even if they don't actually act on it, by not accepting it, and by "it," I mean "all of it," they are denying all seven of the sacraments and even the Triune God. Sounds rather heretical to me.

It is absolutely ridiculous that the U.N. could suggest that the Catholic Church could better prevent the small percentage of Catholic priest sexually abusing young boys and young men by allowing contraception, abortion and same sex "marriage" when this is the very problem that undergirds the sexually abuse of these young boys and young men.

Perhaps this is how the dialogue should be going:

U.N.: “You need to allow Catholics to use contraception.”
Vatican: “Are you saying we should abandon the doctrine of a Triune God?”
U.N.: “No, not at all!”
Vatican: “Perhaps you shouldn’t make suggestions on topics you’re a completely ignorant of.”

U.N. “You need to allow same sex marriage.”
Vatican: “Are you saying we should abandon the Eucharist, the source and summit of the Catholic Faith?”
U.N.: “No, not at all!”
Vatican: “Perhaps you shouldn’t make suggestions on topics you’re a completely ignorant of.”

U.N.: “You need to allow abortion.”
Vatican: “Are you saying we should encourage the emotional abuse and mutilation of women and the dismemberment and killing of children?”
U.N.: “No, not…Ugh, I think I know where this one is going.”
